Brooklyn, NY, October 26, 2007: Are Williamsburg hipsters too cool for a songwriting competition? Apparently not! Jezebel Music’s annual event continues to attract an amazing line-up of original up-and-coming talent and music fans.
Brooklyn may seem like an unlikely place for a songwriters competition, but this is no American Idol, no battle-of-the-bands, no Simon, no Paula and certainly no Ryan Seacrest For the 4th year running. Jezebel Music continues to produce a singer-songwriter event like no other. “I believe there’s something tastefully ironic about this. This event seems to attract those who normally would never enter a competition, says Gabriel Levitt, founder of Jezebel, but we have an amazing pool of original talent here, so really, why not Williamsburg?
Williamsburg is fast becoming an international songwriter’s Mecca. You can't walk a single block without seeing someone with a guitar slung across her or his back. Singer-songwriters come in all musical genres: alternative, country, folk, jazz, punk, rap, and a combination of all the above. Be it Brooklyn natives, Canadian street musicians, or up-and-coming Malagasy folkies, WLSC brings together performing songwriters of all varieties to be heard, discovered, and introduced to a plethora of talented peers.
The competition consists of amateur and professional songwriters who sing their own original songs both on the submitted recording and for the live competition and have sold less than 250,000 CD units over the past five years. Levitt has enlisted sponsors Sam Ash Music Store and Budweiser, and songwriters will compete for the top prize of $4,000.00 while gaining exposure to local music lovers, and a panel of industry and tastemaker judges.
